Welcome
Welcome to the premier issue of Destination West magazine! More than 200,000 resident’s and 5,100 businesses call West Valley City, Taylorsville and Kearns home. ChamberWest is the chamber of commerce for West Valley City, Taylorsville and Kearns businesses and a resource for residents and visitors. A big thank you to Wasatch Mountain Publishing who produced this magazine.
Salt Lake’s west side boasts a regional shopping mall, Valley Fair Mall, anchored by chamber member JC Penney as well as a large shopping center in the center of the valley, The Family Center at Taylorsville. Both centers are within easy freeway access from I-215.
Utah’s Entertainment Destination, formerly known as the west-side, is the entertainment capital of Salt Lake County with such venues as the E Center, Hale Centre Theatre, the USANA Amphitheater, Rocky Mountain Raceway, Hollywood Connection, Salt Island Adventure cruises on the Great Salt Lake, Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center and the Utah Olympic Oval among many others. All are destinations you will want to see and visit on the west side. And to make your plans smarter, you are centrally located to all the major attractions such as the Kennecott Copper Mine, all the local ski resorts and Temple Square and of course, Salt Lake International Airport…all within 25 minutes.
The area is also home to dozens of hotel chains, the International Center, the Lake Park Corporate Center and three golf courses. Summer community events include West Valley City’s WestFest Celebration; Taylorsville Dayzz and Kearns Hometown Days. The Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness center hosts a Fire, Water and Ice Festival every August in conjunction with Hometown Days. All of these events have the best fireworks in the valley and you won’t be disappointed.
If you haven’t visited Salt Lake’s west-side lately, come and see the sights, dine out at award winning local national restaurants, take in a Grizzlies hockey game, skate on the Fastest Ice on Earth, hold on to your seats at Rocky Mountain Raceways, or shop till you drop with some of the best small businesses in Utah.
If you’ve recently moved into our area, welcome. There isn’t a more spectacular view of the Wasatch Mountains than the view from the west-side. You’ll find great educational choices, plenty of parks and open space and affordable housing. A county-wide library system gives you access to the most books in Salt Lake County. What a great place to live, work and recreate.
If you’re looking for local businesses that support the community where you live, visit www.chamberwest.org and use our searchable business database. Find that hobby store, grocery store, a friendly bank or credit union, apartments, or hotels and restaurants, all with the click of your mouse.
Enjoy!
